On Sunday, June 30, six talented young chefs (representing the Vancouver and Val d’ Okanagan Bailliages) came together to participate in the 2024 Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs (JCR) competition – BC’s regional culinary competition and first step to the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs JCR national event to take place in October.

As part of our interest in enhancing the knowledge and enjoyment of fine wines and spirits among Chaine members, we are excited to announce the introduction of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) program.

Chef Gus Koenigsfest, the Canadian National Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs champion in 2019, is set to represent the Maple Leaf at the 2021 International competition to take place in Paris this September. That event will see Gus test his culinary prowess against a field of top young talents from around the world.

The annual competition, held at Vancouver Community College, saw our chefs participate in a classic “black box” competition, where each chef was required to create, cook and present a custom menu (appetizer, main course and dessert incorporating a pre-set assemblage of fresh ingredients) within a prescribed time limit.

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar’s culinary brigade, under the visionary leadership of Executive Chef Alex Chen, added yet another accolade to its already impressive resume this past weekend when Chef de Partie Nathan Sundeen was awarded the silver medal at Canada’s 2017 Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Jeunes Chefs National culinary competition finals in Ottawa.
